How does an online paralegal school work?

If you wish to be accepted into an online school you will need to have certain qualifications and skills already. You will need to have a high school diploma or equivalent, and if you do have other work experience – especially work experience related to working with the law, this will also benefit your application, though it is not essential.

When you apply to study in an online school, you may be asked about your work experience. This is mainly so that the school provides you with the variety of classes which best suits your interests and makes sure that the classes are varied and balanced in their make up.

You may be able to complete the first course offered by the school as a trial. This is a really great way to see if the school is offering the types of learning that you understand. It will also help to give you an insight into both the industry you wish to become a part of, and also it is a reality check to see if learning online really does suit you. Once you have tried the course, you are then in a position to decide if it is what you are looking for – great if the answer is yes – or that this is not ‘really you’ and you are then able to cancel without having spent large amounts of time or money.

When you have completed the trial course and have decided to continue the course, you will often be able to use the credits gained towards the final paralegal certificate. You can then become certified in as little as seven to ten months, depending on the course and certificate you have enrolled on.

You can also search the web and find intensive online paralegal school courses which allow to become a certified paralegal in as little as six weeks! Others take additional courses to extend their education and to become specialists in specific areas. To join an online paralegal course, you will probably have to simply complete the online forms on the online paralegal school’s website or simply give them a call.

Some courses will demand you pass the Certified Legal Assistant Exam, which requires you have completed a certain number of hours of education and training. On the completion of this exam, you can work as a qualified paralegal.

When you apply for a place at an online paralegal school, you will have a letter or email sent to you confirming you place. You will also receive instructions on how to enroll, and how to pay. Once you have paid for your place, you will then be able to buy the books you need, or have them sent to you – and finally you can start your lectures.
