Why study for a biology degree online?

Biology is the study of living things, and has hundreds, if not thousands of subdivisions, so there is something out there for each and everyone of us.

My first degree was in Botany, and so I was fascinated to discover that there are lots of different ways people can study an online biology degree - a really great way of learning more about the animals and plants around us. There are so many different levels of Biology, from entrance level Bachelor of Science to a Ph.D. in Biology. I managed to collect one of each!

It is harder to complete a Biology degree online, as there is some much which only be learnt through experience. An online education is however better suited to the older student, who has lots of other commitments such as a family or active work life or does not live near a highly quality educational institution.

What jobs can I do after an online biology degree?

There are so many jobs that you can do. Many seem to complete a biology degree, do a couple of years in a related job, such as carrying out post-doctoral work in Orchids or wheat, and then drifting into the education system. Most biology graduates seem to end up as secondary school teachers, or in the rarer cases, a lecturer or a primary school teacher.

When you get your online biology degree, you are given a ticket to travel. There are lots of different research projects based all around the world in which you could take part in.

I think that most people would enjoy gaining a biology degree, and gaining a deeper understanding about how the world works and where we fit into it. The beautiful thing about biology is that there is a scale - so you can study things which are super small (I studied a fungus invisible to the naked eye called mycohrizza)to whole ecosystems and seeing how they fit together. The other great thing about studying biology is that it is all around you, so when you are walking with your family, or friends, you will always have something you can point out and discuss with them.
