Why earn college degree online?

It also means that you can remain wherever you want to be in the world and still be sure of gaining a First Class qualification - I have heard of Americans living and working in Laos or Thailand, who still get a top quality American degree and earn college degree online.

Another major benefit of working online is that the costs are often substantially less than those charged for attending in person - this is because the college does not need to heat a lecture theatre, clean it after you have been or employ security guards around it - all leading to substantial savings, which are then passed directly onto you. In addition, as you determine how fast you complete each unit, you can shorten a 4 year degree course into two or three years, saving you a year in college fees. It also means that as you get out earlier, you can start earning earlier, in a job you love.

When I started this website, I didn't appreciate quite how many different online courses there are out there. This means that if your local university or college does not offer the course you really want to do, then you can now find it online. It means you do not have to move to study the course which is right for you.

Who wants to earn college degree online?

Online learners come from every walk of life. Some regret what they did not learn while at school and in their mature years, want to give education another go. Others study to increase their professional qualifications and so increase their chances of a rapid promotion. Others need to study just to keep up with the latest advancements in technology, such as an electrical engineer.

My father signed up just because he liked to learn. He was a General Practitioner by trade, but loved his online maths course more than anything else. Our conversations always started on his maths course, moved to his electric car (more often than not in bits), and then the rest of the family. He studied and revised and took great pride in his learning and often was amazed how how well maths described nature. It was luck I married a daughter of a great Romanian mathematician as they never ran out of things to tell each other!

You do however have to take great care, and make sure that your qualification is accredited and that the online college is accredited. You can do this online by going to the US department of Education site and checking to see if your site has been listed.

If your online college degree looks too easy, the chances are that it probably is a diploma mill - and your degree won't be worth the paper it is printed on - no matter how pretty it looks! Also avoid any degree which takes your work experience into account.

Who shouldn't earn college degree online?

While I have praised online learning to the skies, as you would expect from an online learning site, it should also be noted that there are a substantial number of people who should not, in any circumstances, touch an online degree.

Anyone wanting to go into a practical subject, such as becoming a doctor or nurse, would benefit from the experiences gained in the hospital - you can get a degree online - but I am not convinced it is as good.

Anyone who likes to work with others - there are many people who attend college to find a little romance, new friends, or for support in their learning - these people should continue in a traditional college, as online, you are much more alone, and with a greatly reduced support structure.

People with little to no money should also avoid the temptation of learning online, as it is still expensive to do, with a much higher failure rate and so a normal college is much better.

Those who simply don't have the brains to be in college. If every traditional college has rejected you on your grades or qualifications, I am quite sure that you will find an online college to earn college degree online. Just because they accept you, and take your money, it does not mean it is the right move in any way for you - and you are more than likely to fail. Go back to basics, pick up the qualifications that a traditional college degree asks of you, and then if you want, take the plunge and learn online.
