I have recently come across another online virtual school – which is based in Georgia. This school caters for a wide age range from middle school to high school.

What age ranges does this school cover?

Georgia online school offers a full curriculum for High School students with advanced placement Ň and college – prep courses.

The school also offers a limited amount of online middle school support – though this is not free or state supported. However, they do offer free maths remediation resources for pupils up to year 9 – which can be used in the classroom or as self study units, where teachers or students self – enroll as needs be.

How much does it cost to attend Georgia Virtual School?

This school has a rather complex fee formula, which would take a bit of explaining to complete. As far as I can gather – it goes like this:

Middle School: No state funding is provided, but you need to pay $150 per quarter class – so per subject you would need to pay $600 per year . You have a wide range of different subjects to choose from, including: Math Courses, Science Courses, Language Arts Courses , Spanish Courses , French Courses, Career, Technical and Agricultural Education Courses (Electives) as well as Middle School Technology Assessment exams and a free set of Middle School Math Remediation Resources for students and teachers living in Georgia.

High School Courses: These is limited state funding available for Session 1 Autumn and Spring courses. Session 2 courses and also the Summer courses cost $300 per half credit, and $600 per full credit course.

Is this an accredited online high school?

Yes – this school is accredited by Georgia Education Department. the Georgia Virtual School program serves public, private, and home school students and has expanded its course offerings to over 78 unique core curriculum, AP, and elective courses, including SAT Preparation, with 198 course variations, each meeting QCC/GPS or College Board standards

Does this school offer out of state support?

Georgia Virtual School does not issue credit for classes. An out of state student is required to check with his/her local school regarding taking any GAVS courses and receive the appropriate permissions prior to beginning the approval process. At the end of the semester, Georgia Virtual School will provide the student's local school with a numeric grade for the course and it will be the school's responsibility to transcribe the credit onto the student's transcript.

How can I study from home

Georgia virtual school does offer state support – as already discussed. It also has excellent supporting information on how a home schooled child can apply and pay for their education. The final tests are taken in designated test centres.
