Michigan Virtual High School (MVS)

Michigan virtual high school is a great way to learn online in Michigan.

Are you looking for an online school in Michigan? I have found Michigan virtual school (mvs). It covers both the middle school and high school curriculum.

Is this an accredited online high school?

Michigan Virtual High School (MVHS), one of the largest virtual schools in the United States, has been awarded accreditation by the Commission on International and Trans-Regional Accreditation (CITA) since 2005.

Public Act 230 of 2000 authorized implementation of the MVHS. The MVHS does not grant course credit or award diplomas independently, but works in partnership with local and intermediate school districts which award credit or diplomas.

How much does a year cost at this school?

This is more tricky than usual as there are lots of different course, priced at different amounts and it depends on how many units you decide to purchase and at what age range. The cheapest courses cost only $30 each.

If you are a home-schooled child, according to Michigan Department of Education guidelines, your student may be enrolled in up to two MVS courses per semester through your local high school, if your student also takes at least one “in-seat” class per semester at the school. This is so that the school can register your child as a part-time student and so receive money for their education from the government. To be honest – I think this is a great solution, as it then allows a student to have a taste of school and meet their peers on a regular basis, but still enjoy the freedom of learning.

Can my home-schooled student earn high school credit or a diploma through MVS?

A student cannot directly gain credits from Michigan virtual high school as the Michigan schools normally award these directly. If you are a a home-schooled pupil, you need to talk directly with your local school district.

Does the Michigan High School answer questions?

I think it is safe to say that Michigan Virtual School has one of the most comprehensive frequently asked questions sections that I have seen in a long time. They answer questions that a parent, student, school or home parent is likely to ask. They also appear to be very open to answer any questions which you may have, which they have not yet thought about.

Does Michigan Virtual High school provide all the studying resources I need?

No – if a child needs text books, their school (or if they are home-schooled), their parents are expected to provide the resources. Likewise the cost of AP exams (an extra $80 per test) are also not covered in the fees.

A child should also have access to a computer – this may be timetabled into the day if they attend school such as using these online high school classes as a replacement for a media or ICT lesson.
