Online Accredited Law Schools
- Why they are essential to your law career

Why should you use online accredited law schools for your online law degree?

A law degree is a great way to succeed in a host of different career options. If you use online graduate school programs for your law degree, this gives you a cheaper way to graduate, as well as letting you study at your own pace. You can fit it into your every day life of work, kids and day-to-day living. There are now thousands of universities that offer an online option – possibly the right choice for you.

Online accredited law schools programs use the latest Internet communication technology. You will be able to watch your lectures either as a download, or as a streaming file, so you can see it when it suits you rather than needing to be there live. Your books will be sent to you as ebooks, which you can read on your PDA or your computer screen rather than in the paper format. You will also be certain to have access to different online university libraries, and so can complete your online research in that way.

You will be given access to your professors and tutors via email or via a discussion forum. You will be able to post your questions on a discussion board and the tutors will answer them directly there. Don’t forget – any question you have – the chances are lots of other students will also have the same or similar questions. This is one of the joys of using online graduate school programs - they help and support your studies.

Just like in any other degree, especially any other law degree, you will be set assignments to complete and email back for marking. The benefit of working online is that you will need to be good at your own time management and be able to organize your resources efficiently. You will also need to be self-motivated, as few people will chase you up if you are late. These skills will be greatly appreciated when you start work in the office with other workers. The other benefit of working online is that you will become use to working with computers, email and other Internet communication technology – key skills in the modern work place.

Most employers now recognise a law degree from an online accredited law school to be equivalent to one from a conventional campus university. If you do intend to work as a lawyer, it would how be worth checking with the Bar Association for the state you plan to work in that your online law schools accreditation is acceptable to them. A law degree from an unaccredited law school may not be accepted by employers and hence be a complete waste of time, effort and money – so checking the accreditation of the school is essential.

It is essential that you take the time to research and compare the different online accredited law schools degrees, and take the effort of chatting to ex-graduates from the schools you wish to apply to. They will be able to give you first hand information about how useful the online course was for them. You can also ask for advice from the American Bar Association (ABA).

The problem with online accredited law schools degree programs is that they do not offer a face-to-face experience with the tutors, or with your course mates who could easily live hundreds of miles away from you. All the social and professional interactions will be by email, yahoo communicator or another piece of online communication software. For some people – this lack of real, physical social interaction will prove to be a challenge, while to others, it will mean that they have less distractions in chasing their final goal than those not using online graduate school programs.

Whilst you can work in the comfort of your own home, it is recommended you set aside a room or specific area, where you will not be distracted by the usual household chores and other family distractions. You will need to be focused on the course to really succeed with an online law degree program. While many people complete the course on their own, some people do benefit from additional online or off-line tutoring from either one of their one colleges tutors, or with a competent private tutor. Don’t be afraid to ask for additional academic support when you need it – as often these extra boosts help to keep up the morale and motivation of a student.
