I thought I would share my research on online Christian schools with you. There are lots of reasons why you may wish to send your child to an online school, especially an online Christian school.
The first factor may be that the nearest Christian school is too far away for your children to attend on a regular basis. When you enroll with Christian schools online, you still have the benefits of giving your children a high quality private education, as a fraction of the cost and without the mind numbing daily commute.
I was brought up in a Christian school and believe it did set a great set of morals for life. I later tried for a job at a Christian school and was thrown by the question – ‘when you walk into a Christian school – what is the difference to a non-Christian school?”. I never was able to really answer it – but I digress.
Many online Christian schools are open to all age groups, from their first years to their final school years. You can then lead your children through a Christian education through college, though the higher up the education scale you go, the less choice you will have – which could be a problem for some students if they can’t find the course they are looking for in a Christian establishment.
Christian schools online are keen to make sure that all the children still have an active social life, just like a child in a public school. Many online Christian schools have forums where children can exchange Christian ideas and offer places where students can discuss both religious and educational issues. Also it is well worth contacting your local home school association, as often there is quite a strong religious element in the home schools – and so your children will be able to make ‘real friends’ as well as online friends. Also it will be good for the different children to attend field trips together.
While it is freely recognised that children who attend religious schools often gain higher final marks than in non-religious schools, it is still essential to make sure than any Christian schools online your child attends is fully accredited, especially if they are studying for an online high school diploma at home.
When you apply to an online Christian school – many schools now check up the students strengths and weaknesses by writing directly to the students last teacher – so try to leave the previous school on good terms. Also we have discovered during our research that the higher quality Christian schools also have started to complete background searches on new pupils on social sites such as MySpace – so if your child as anything which would be an embarrassment to know – it is highly advisable to remove these from any social network space until at least the school as registered your child.
There are thousands of schools online – I would suggest you chat to people who already use Christian schools online to educate their children, such as be contacting the local home school association – and asking which online religious schools people use in your area, to make sure that it is relevant to both your own beliefs and follows the ever more complicated state laws.
