British Online School
Northstar UK

"Christian perspective" online school, but "used by families from a wide-range of beliefs". It has a wide range of subjects offered on a per-subject pricing basis for students aged 13-16. In addition, individualised A level programmes are also offered.

What is the location of the online school?

It is based in the UK.

What is the mission statement of this accredited online high school?

It does not have a mission statement clearly labelled on its site. I am happy to correct this is someone does make or find one.

History of this virtual School.

Launched in September 1999, NorthStarUK was the first fully online learning community providing

secondary education in the UK.

Does this online high school offer fully accredited IGCSEs?

It does teach the information for 2 different examining boards, but the students themselves need to

organise the examination centre.

What accreditations does this accredited online high school have?

It is the responsibility of parents to enter their child for examinations with the GCSE or IGCSE boards and to find an examination centre where their child will be able to sit the examinations.

How many students does this online high school currently teach?

Does not say. It should however be noted that tutor-student interaction does not take place in real time.

Another site Briteschool says this school has had student numbers in the low hundreds and has 17 full- and part-time teachers.

Cost per year to attend this virtual school?

Students undertaking pre-GCSE courses (one year course)

£278 per student per subject.
£130 per subject for curriculum-only courses

(Please note that curriclum-only courses cannot be purchased by schools)

Students undertaking GCSE and IGCSE courses (two year course)

£318 per student per subject per year i.e. a full GCSE/IGCSE course costs £636.
Please note that Coordinated Science (Double IGCSE) is charged as TWO courses.

Students undertaking A level courses (two year course)

£350 per student per subject per year i.e. a full A level course costs £700.

Discounts

There are financial discounts available for early booking, late arrivals or multiple bookings.

How easy is it to navigate this school's online website?

The site was very basic, but it told you all you needed to know, so I can't complain. However its very

low ranking of a PR3 (PR is Googles Page Ranking value for each page) for a online high school which has been around for 10 years is very disappointing.

Other useful information about this distance learning school?

2007 was their best ever year for exam results. Over 90% of their exam entries resulted in a C grade or higher and over 50% led to an A or A*.

Which begs the question - What were 2008 results like?

I would ask before signing up to be certain.

It does accept students from around the world.

Other sites have described this school "Well-established with a good reputation. Good, friendly communications and responsiveness to queries."
