Did you know that if you complete an online school psychology degree, you would become a school psychologist.

This is a person who is responsible for with reviewing and targeting of problems with children who have behavioural problems or who have either special educational needs (SEN). Their problems can lead them to social exclusion or expressing themselves in inappropriate ways for a school.

A school psychologist will work one-to-one with a pupil - or support larger groups of pupils. These students need to focus on finding out the causes and impacts of their problems and try to improve their inclusion in an educational environment. When they have isolated and understood the root causes, the school psychologist will develop positive behaviour strategies with their parents, teachers (especially their day to day class teachers) and anyone else involved in caring for the student.

In the UK, many children who once would have had to attend a ‘Special School’ are now being included in mainstream schools. This has had lots of positive benefits and while it has increased the confidence of many children, it has brought in a wider range of problems and conflicts, which need to also be resolved.

Children with milder forms of disabilities such as: Hearing impairment, Blindness - or partial blindness, Epilepsy, Dyslexia, Mild autism can now be integrated into mainstream schools. There are also many other disabilities which are now found in mainstream schools and each school has its own unique set of polices on the issue.

The students may also have behavioural difficulties. These include a wide broad range of conditions but usually they include: Bullying, Inability to relate to adults, Attention Deficit Disorder (ADHD), lack of motivation or continual disruptive behaviour. A school psychologist will be made responsible for identifying of a child’s behavioural difficulties may be creating and sustaining the child’s negative impact on the school.

A school psychologist asked to provide support, advice and guidance on how to best deal with a child suffering from a lack of motivation to learn or progress, especially if the condition leads the child to become a school bully. The causes can be due to a death in the family, a divorce, physical or sexual abuse or a hundred other causes, all of which reduce the level of trust a child has in adults. School psychologists will be asked to help provide different ideas on how to motivate children and encourage them to work.
